Alpine Facilities 


Alpine offers a broad range of community facilities including a
library, a country club, and a golf course (open April through
November). For snow enthusiasts, Alpine has a winter Sports 
recreation area with maintained cross country ski trails and designated snowmobiling and sledding areas. Alpine also has a county-owned public library located on state Highway 180.

Communication. In addition to communication resources from the
rest of the state, Alpine has a bi-weekly newspaper, The White
Mountain Independent, and weekly papers The Round Valley News
and Wampum Saver. The radio station is KRVZ from Springerville
and three television stations are available via transmitters from
Tucson.

Lodging and Meeting Facilities. There are four motels with 70
units available, three summer cabins with 18 units, five RV parks with
117 spaces and nine campgrounds with 130 campsites, and three
group sites. Additional dispersed area campsites with capacity for
several hundred are also available.

Educational. Alpine has one public elementary school. High schcool
students attend school in Springerville. Northland Pioneer College is
a nationally accredited two-year community college which has
adopted the "Decentralized Center" concept. One of 17 centers is in
Springerville, and some classes are held in Alpine. Areas of study
include occupational, vocational, academic, and avocational programs.

Medical. Complete medical facilities are available in Springerville (28
miles away). These include a hospital with 44 beds, 10 assisted-living
apartments, 10 physicians, two chiropractors, four dentists, one
optometrist, and two orthopedists.

Financial. Alpine has access to two financial institutions: Bank One
(Eagar)and First Interstate BanK (Springerville). Apache County busi-
nesses are eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets through the
strategic Finance Division of the Arizona Department of Commerce.

Governmental. Alpine is governed by the Apache County Board of
supervisors. Two sheriff's department deputies and one Department
of public Safety officer are stationed in Alpine. The fire department
has 15 volunteers.

Airport. Residents of Alpine use the Springerville Municipal Airport,
which has a lighted 6,600-foot paved runway with radio and non-
directional beacon.
