The
community has a broad range of facilities, including an area high school
dome seating 5,000, a library, a museum (Cushman Art Collection), a heated
Olympic-size swimming pool, two racquetball courts, a lighted tennis
court, athletic facilities at the school/community gym, such as football
and baseball fields, and several parks: Downtown Mini Park, and City Park
(includes Historic Park).
Becker
Lake (two miles west) has a history as one of the southwest's best trout
producers. Lyman Lake State Park (17 miles northwest on U.S. 180) offers fishing,
swimming, boating, water skiing, camping,
buffalo, Indian petroglyphs, Rattlesnake Ruins and picnic facilities.
The
community offers a variety of accommodations (motels, cabins, trailer
parks and campgrounds) to suit visitor needs. Complete shopping and
professional services are also available.
Springerville
is also the nearest full-service community to Apache
Sunrise Ski Resort, owned and operated by the White Mountain
Apache tribe (26 miles southwest). Sunrise offers ski programs for all
ages and more than 60 trails at an elevation of up to 11,000 feet.
The
communities of Alpine
(20 miles southeast) and Greer
(17 miles southwest) offer cross country ski trails, along with sledding,
snowmobiling, and other winter recreation. Springerville serves as a
tourism hub to the Blue Range Wilderness Area, three Indian reservations, Petrified
Forest, Gila National Forest, Indian petroglyphs, and volcanic
formations.
Communication
In addition to communication resources from the rest of the state,
Eagar has daily, bi-weekly, and weekly newspapers, several radio stations
from Show Low and Springerville, and television channels from Tucson and
Phoenix. Cable television is also available.
Education
Eagar has one elementary school, one intermediate school, one middle
school and one high school with a state-of-the-art high tech center.
Springerville and Eagar are combined into one district serving both towns.
Northland Pioneer
College offers continuing education courses depending on course
pre-enrollment. Northern Arizona University offers undergraduate and

Medical
Complete medical facilities are available in Eagar and near-by
Springerville (2 miles away). These include: a hospital with 44 beds, 10
assisted living apartments, six physicians, three dentists, two
chiropractors, two orthopedists, and one optometrist.

There are two bank branch offices in the area. Also, Apache County
businesses are eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets through
the Finance Division of the Arizona Department of Commerce. Information on

Governmental
Eagar is governed by a mayor, six council members and a town manager.
There also is a police department, sheriff's department and a fire
department with 20 volunteers.
Airport
Residents of Eagar have access to the Springerville Municipal Airport
with a lighted and paved 6,600-foot runway, and a 5,600-foot paved
crosswind runway.

Lodging & Meeting Facilities
There is one 40-room motel with meeting facilities, as well as six
motels in Springerville with 206 rooms, and one meeting facility with
seating for up to 900 people and numerous meeting areas in the Dome. Eagar
also offers nine trailer parks with 228 spaces.
