Horseback Riding - For the horse lover and outdoor
enthusiast the White Mountain area offers exceptional trails for you and your horse. For a
leisurely 4 mile ride with gentle terrain and spectacular views of the south rim, try the
Mogollon Rim Trail #309. This trail is in fair condition and is ideal in Spring, Summer
and Fall. Look for the trailhead near the end of Forest Road 54 off US 191.On those
delightful Spring, Summer and Fall days a ride to view the spruce and fir forests and
alpine meadows is a must. The Escudilla Trail #308 offers such inspirational sights and
perfect moments of solitude. This 3.3 mile trail (rated moderate in difficulty) may be
somewhat taxing due to the higher elevations (9,600-10,900 ft.). The trail follows an old
road which leads to the Escudilla fire tower. To access this trail take US191 north 6
miles from Alpine and make a right on Forest Road 56. Go three miles and just before the
road turns toward the south is the beginning of the trail.
To see beyond your vision, experience the Raspberry Trail #35. This 9.4 mile trail
traverses a narrow canyon which makes it quite challenging to ride or walk. However, it is
well worth the effort as the journey allows for breathtaking ridge top views of the every
changing mood of the White Mountains. The trailhead is accessible year-round and is
located off US191, 10 miles south of Hannagan Meadow.
Come and Experience the White Mountains.
